| Faced with having outgrown their current space needs, the presenters had to educate and then sell senior system leadership with the need to invest in the supply chain. Four options were considered, including either opening a new centralized offsite distribution center or outsourcing supply distribution operations to a med/surg distributor. The authors will walk attendees through the decision-making process including the financial, operations, and strategic factors considered and the eventual design and opening of the new centralized distribution center. |

| Christiana Care is a 1,100 bed hospital system in northern Delaware maintaining $12 million of implants to support over 40,000 annual surgeries. The 2005 black market tissue scandal prompted us to review our procedures for tracking and tracing human tissue. A gap analysis with industry experts lead to implementation of tissue tracking software and action plans to resolve tracking and tracing weaknesses. Realizing there was opportunity to control and track all implants lead to improved cost containment, disciplined utilization, and reduced waste. The presenters will walk attendees through each phase of the process: Opportunity for Improvement (what was broken), Action Plan (implementation), and Accomplishments (what has made us successful). |
